The number of fatalities due to the massive flood that hit mud in Nepal amounted to 1,344, as confirmed this Saturday by police authorities after recovering bodies in the affected areas.

Security forces are carrying out intensive search and rescue efforts, managing to bring 8,631 people to safety. Meanwhile, 4,898 citizens remain incommunicado, including at least 606 foreigners, including two Spaniards.

For its part, as reported by the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN), the identification of bodies represents one of the main logistical challenges in the Himalayan region.

Of the 1,344 recovered deaths, including 85 minors, 1,270 remain unidentified, so forensic teams are intensifying DNA testing with more than 2,200 samples taken between victims and family members.
