(VEA NEWSPAPER, JULY 21 TO 29, 2007)

  • On July 21, 2007, after the formation of some 22,000 base units, the Battalion Assemblies of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) were installed.
  • The Battalion Assemblies had as their first purpose and strategic objective the formation of cadres, ideological learning and the deepening of the Bolivarian Revolution proposed by Immortal Commander Hugo Chávez Frías.
  • At the time of installation of these assemblies, the PSUV had a registered membership of 7,253,691 people.
  • The official spokespersons of the Promoting Commission explained that aspiring militants would take ideological training courses, where topics such as “the economic and political organization of the State and the problems of the geometry of power, its meaning” would be discussed.
  • Thus, the PSUV, as of today, is the best organized, efficient political organization with the highest number of members (6,408,844) in all of Latin America, followed by the National Regeneration Movement of Mexico (MORENA) with 2,322,136 members; the Workers' Party (PT) of Brazil, with 1,631,730 members; the Bolivian Movement for Socialism (MAS), with 991,092 members; and the Communist Party of Cuba with 800,000 registered.
  • All these political organizations are key players in the Sao Paulo Forum and form a platform of left-wing parties and movements in Latin America and the Caribbean, where the PSUV, led by Nicolás Maduro and Diosdado Cabello, makes permanent contributions to the processes of regional integration.
  • On that historic date, each Socialist Battalion held three assemblies, each with a different objective:
    • First assembly: Installation of the debate days, selection of the debate director and the rapporteur of the assembly, and the opening of the list of aspiring members of the socialist battalion.
    • Second assembly: Holding a debate to define the ideological and structural bases of the PSUV.
    • Third Assembly: Election of the spokespersons and commissioners of the battalion.
  • Each socialist battalion should have been composed of 300 aspiring militants and hold three meetings to discuss all aspects related to the founding of the party, to elect, in the last of these, a spokesperson who would participate to choose representatives to the Founding Congress of the PSUV.
