  • The 14-year-old girl, Betty Josefina Herrera, was shot in the back in Pinto Salinas, on the night of Saturday, October 10, 1962, when members of the Metropolitan Police (PM) were carrying out a raid on the sector.
  • According to information provided by journalists, photojournalists and neighbors present at the time of the police raid, it was after nine o'clock at night that a PM assault squad, known as “Los Pantaneros”, entered the neighborhood on patrols and on foot and began shooting for no reason.
  • The mother of the murdered girl, Juana Inocencia Herrera, in the midst of her pain, stated that no one in that sector was assaulting metropolitan agents.
  • The uniformed members of the PM began shooting when their daughter Betty went out with her friend Aracelis Josefina Flores Silvera, in the direction of the house of some neighbors a few meters away from hers.
  • The girl Aracelis Josefina was also shot by the PM and taken seriously injured to the Vargas Hospital as an emergency.
  • This occurred during the administration of Luis Herrera Campins, when the PM constantly raided neighborhoods, raiding, running over and violating the most basic human rights standards.
