The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the deployment of F-16 warplanes to carry out surveillance patrols over the Middle East region. This measure of force comes after the announcement by the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the postponement of negotiations involving the United States, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Qatar and Pakistan.

The increase in surveillance activities occurs despite the fact that, on June 18, Iran and the United States signed a virtual memorandum of understanding, designed with the objective of ending the military conflict that began in February of this year.

This document establishes a 60-day period for the negotiation of a definitive agreement that addresses both the Iranian nuclear program and the lifting of the naval blockade and the sanctions imposed by Washington.

Despite recent diplomatic efforts aimed at detente, the mobilization of these aircraft underlines the persistence of tensions in the region, while expectations are maintained about the progress of the dialogues scheduled for the next period of understanding.
