Venezuela explores new avenues of support with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture

The Minister for Productive Agriculture and Lands, GJ. Vladímir Padrino López, met with representatives in Venezuela of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), with the objective of exploring new ways of cooperation in favor of national agro-productive development.

The holder of the agricultural portfolio deeply thanked, on behalf of the president in charge Delcy Rodríguez, the solidarity of this international organization in these difficult times that the country is going through after the double earthquake of June 24.

He stressed that international support will remain in the historical memory of Venezuela and expressed his willingness to strengthen ties with multilateral organizations to strengthen the country's agri-food system.

“We are committed to strengthening our productive systems, we have enough arable land for diverse experiences (...) We welcome all international cooperation,” said the head of this office and, in turn, mentioned the Executive's sustained efforts to strengthen the national agro-productive apparatus.

During the meeting, at which current projects were reviewed, the minister stressed that cooperation in the agri-food sector is key to strengthening national production, “in Venezuela there is arable land, there are genetic initiatives and we have a lot of potential,” for which he thanked IICA for its support and technical assistance it provides to the nation.

The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture is an international organization specialized in agricultural and rural development with a presence in Venezuela for 60 years and has 34 member countries. It currently provides technical assistance to the country in areas related to digital agriculture, bioeconomy, digital transformation, health and safety, pest mitigation, bioinputs and sustainability.

Since 2019, the organization has maintained cooperation projects with the National Institute for Agricultural Research (SINIA) and the National Institute for Integral Agricultural Health (Insai), both attached to the Ministry for Productive Agriculture and Lands
