Venezuelan badminton won 2 bronze medals at the Giraldilla 2026 Tournament held in Havana, Cuba.

Mariangel García in singles and the duo formed by Bárbara Lamas and Nazareth Sánchez, climbed to the third step of the podium.

Garcia started in the round of 32 with a bye pass and in his first game in the round of 16 he beat Salvadoran Daniela Hernández 2-0 (15-21; 21-23).

In the quarterfinals, she beat Mexico's Sara Delgado 2-0 (15-21; 14-21), but in the semifinals she gave up in three sets 13-21; 21-14; 15-21 to Maltese Francesa Clark.

Garcia shared third place with Colombian Juliana Giraldo, who fell in her semifinal match against Cuba's Taymara Oropesa.

The gold medal was awarded to the Cuban Taymara Oropesa when she won 2-0 (21-7; 21-6) over Francesca Clark from Malta, who won the silver metal, according to a press release from the Ministry of People's Power for Health.

The duo formed by Lamas and Sánchez went undefeated in the first two phases. In the round of 16, they beat Cuba's Santa Boche and María Torre 2-0 (21-12; 21-9), and then they repeated against fellow West Indian players Erly Cabrera and Alina Sanz with a score of 2-0 (6-21; 14-21).

Their only defeat came in the semifinals where they yielded to Dominicans Clarisa Pie and Nairoby Jiménez with a score of 2-0 (10-21; 14-21).

With this result, the Venezuelan representation added points to the world ranking that are essential for the eligibility criteria for the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.
