Social organizations, student movements and members of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) are mobilizing this Thursday, April 9, in the capital city to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the approval of the enactment of the Organic Law of Community Councils.

The rally takes place in the La Previsora tower in Plaza Venezuela, and will depart to the surroundings of the Miraflores Palace.

The general secretary of the PSUV, Diosdado Cabello, confirmed the mobilization during his “Con El Mazo Dando” program, stating that revolutionary forces will march to celebrate the validity of this legal instrument.

“We march for our reasons, and we march the day we want, because there is a need to march and we don't let ourselves be conditioned by anyone,” he emphasized

Cabello recalled that when this Law was approved to continue giving more power to the People, sectors of the Venezuelan right went to the Supreme Court of Justice to request the annulment of those laws.

Currently, in Venezuela there are more than 49,000 communal councils, which are grouped into 5,336 communes and communal circuits.

The Organic Law of Community Councils was enacted by then-President Hugo Chávez on April 9, 2006.
