The director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Gebreyesus, revealed that more than three million deaths a year are related to errors in clinical care. These data were shared during a presentation on the challenges faced by the international health system.
Gebreyesus indicated that one in ten patients is harmed during treatment. He stated that unsafe procedures pose a persistent threat to health services.
The health spokesperson also emphasized that minors are at high risk due to medical errors. Among the common problems, he cited misdiagnoses, incorrect administration of medications, nosocomial infections, failed surgeries and failures in evaluating critical signs, as reported by Sputnik.
