The Venezuelan soccer team fell to its Canadian counterpart in the penalty shootout at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington in Texas and says goodbye to the 2024 Copa América.

Venezuela and Canada finished regulation time tied 1-1, so they went on penalties, and the team that plays in the Confederation of North America, Central America and the Caribbean Football (CONCACAF) 3-4 emerged victorious.

The goal for Venezuela was scored by the historic scorer Salomón Rondón in the 64th minute when he took advantage of a long ball that kicked and bathed the goal from the middle of the court, to get to the back of the net.

With this goal Rondón has 44 goals wearing the Vinotinto shirt.

The Venezuelan goalkeeper, Rafael Romo, in statements to the media said he was sad about the result, but happy with the performance of the entire team.

“We did well and today it didn't happen to us, we have a long way to go, a lot of work, now we have to go to the qualifiers,” he added.

For his part, Rondón said that feeling quite sad and dissatisfied with how it all ended, “we left everything on the court and things didn't come to us.”

The striker thanked all the fans for their unconditional support, for the effort they have made and for how they have received them, “we thank them for that warmth”.
