On the 202th anniversary of the granting of Mexican citizenship by the Constituent Congress to the Liberator Simon Bolivar, diplomatic authorities of Venezuela and the Aztec nation made a floral offering to the Father of the Fatherland on Tuesday at the National Pantheon in Caracas.

The activity was led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Latin America, Mauricio Rodríguez, and the Mexican ambassador to Venezuela, Leopoldo de Gyves de la Cruz, accompanied by representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country.

On this important date, Foreign Minister Yván Gil noted on his Telegram channel that the title of honorary citizen was awarded to Bolívar “in recognition of his heroic work for the independence of Latin America”, highlighting the historical relevance of this fact and its impact on relations between the two nations.

Gil stressed that this event constitutes a milestone that evidences the historical brotherhood between Latin American peoples, especially between Venezuela and Mexico, and reaffirms the commitment of the Bolivarian Government to strengthening “cooperation and solidarity with the Mexican people.”

The Mexican citizenship granted to Bolívar on March 17, 1824 is considered one of the most representative symbols of Latin American integration and regional recognition of his independence legacy.
