The first vice-president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello Rondón, paid homage and tribute to the memory of all those who died during the La Guaira tragedy.
“25 years later, we pay homage and tribute to all those who lost their lives during the natural disaster. We were surprised by the rain,” said Cabello Rondón.
During the press conference of the National Directorate of the PSUV, he said that the United States had coordinated with the then Minister of Defense, Raúl Salazar, to send planes and settle in the Port of La Guaira with supposed humanitarian aid, but Commander Hugo Chávez refused it.
“Here, many members of the Armed Forces had been trained in the United States so they wanted to serve them,” he said.
