The Andes 2025 Task Force has recovered 85% of traffic capacity along the Trasandina highway, in the territory of the state of Mérida, on roads to neighboring states Barinas and Trujillo, said the governor of Mérida, Arnaldo Sánchez.
The joint activation of government entities, popular power and companies has allowed “the restoration of 85% of vehicle traffic on the Trans-Andean highway,” the state president said in statements replicated by the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN).
The restoration work totals 70 units of heavy machinery mobilized to rehabilitate road sections between the municipalities of Santos Marquina (Tabay) and Rangel (Mucuchí, Apartaderos); as well as on the branches to the municipalities of Miranda (via Trujillo) and Cardenal Quintero (via Barinas).
Although restoration work is still under development, the partial rehabilitation progress achieved with the activation of temporary and alternative routes has made it possible to mobilize more than 852,000 kilos of agricultural products harvested in the paramo, to supply national markets with vegetables and tubers, said Governor Sánchez.
“After a meeting with the agricultural producers of the Páramo axis, together with the ministries of Agriculture and Land; Food and National Trade, strategies were implemented for this first distribution,” Sánchez explained at a press conference.
The balance of work undertaken from June 25 to July 2 includes the activation of about 6,000 workers and volunteers to serve the population of the municipalities affected by the passage of tropical wave number 9; by the rains and flooding of the Chama, Motatán and Santo Doming rivers or.
The event that occurred on June 24 caused damage to more than 60 road sections, including 33 main access roads and 28 secondary roads; severe and partial damage to 15 bridges and the total loss of eight other bridges.
