Access to Waraira Repano remains restricted after land movements due to earthquakes

The Minister for Ecosocialism, Nelson Rodríguez, offered a detailed assessment of the current conditions of the Waraira Repano National Park, following the recent displacements of land and vegetation masses (active slopes) caused by earthquakes.

“With regard to the accesses to Waraira, we had some displacements, especially of vegetable mass. When the earth is exposed to the elements, as they begin to appear, this is what geologists call active slopes. In other words, a certain degree of displacement of land masses, of land masses begins,” said the minister, according to information from Venezolana de Televisión.

He also added that “then, that is happening and, of course, the aftershocks have to do with that instability, especially in the basins, at the headwaters of the rivers on the Caracas side. We maintain restricted access due to the passage of the Spanish Way and the main road that goes up Cotiza to Galipán,” he added.

He also assured that, although there were some mass movements that obstructed the road, it is clear and with restricted access. At the same time, he specified that the only trail in a state suitable for visiting, either for recreation or for daily exercise, is the Sabas Nieves trail, where access is maintained up to the level of the park rangers. The rest of the access to the other trails remains restricted.
