Jorge Arreaza, executive secretary of ALBA-TCP, read out the agreements and commitments made by member States in the coming months, regarding the XXIV Political Council of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), held at the headquarters of the United Nations Organization (UN), in New York.

In this regard, he noted that among the key points of the agreement, the opposition to the installation of military bases in Latin America stand out , reaffirming the declaration of the continent as a Zone of Peace.

Another common point was the rejection of the instrumentalization of justice, specifically referring to the case of former Ecuadorian vice-president Jorge Glas, who is in detention. “Justice cannot be used as a political mechanism,” he emphasized.

The condemnation of the economic blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba and demanded the removal of the island from the list of countries supposedly sponsoring terrorism, was also part of the above, as was the rejection of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua; and of the conspiracies that seek to destabilize the government of President Nicolás Maduro.

The alliance reaffirmed its commitment to the Caribbean, demanding fair treatment and reparations for the damages caused by colonialism and slavery, while committing itself to following a strategic agenda towards 2030.
