The Alejandro Otero museum commemorated the
International Day of Indigenous Women with various activities of the Sotoupa uchi and Michi
ethnolinguistic niches of the Coche parish, who performed the Zamuro dances and the Yonna dance, belonging to
the Wayúu peoples.
This event highlighted the importance of the role
of indigenous women and the identity of the Wayúu people, one of the
most representative communities in Venezuela.
During the celebration, they offered an
impressive sample of their culture through traditional dances, these
dances are not only artistic expressions, but they also carry deep
meanings that reflect the worldview and traditions of the Wayúu peoples.
Usmiri Báez, representative of the
Wayúu ethnic group, said that the activity called Guardians of the Earth and
Ancestral Wisdom, describes their identity, “is part of what we are in
Wayúu, that is the representation and so that the language that we have is not lost”.
It should be noted that this activity is part of the exhibition of the Geometric Syncretism schedule by the artist Genaro Moreno, creator of Wayúu .
