This Wednesday, October 02, the Minister
of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, presented the opening program
to celebrate this Saturday National Salsa Day, a holiday decreed by
President Nicolás Maduro Moros.
During the press conference held at the Teatro Corazón Salsero, he indicated that the opening ceremony will take place in the spaces of the Aquiles Nazoa Cultural House.
At the same time, he added that the
day will start “with a communal route and in an exceptional place, because the greatest
success we have had in recent times has been the Plaza de la Juventud.
(...) A diverse cultural epicenter has been created that allows the
encounter of different artistic disciplines and knowledge, as well as of different
generations”.
He also took the opportunity to point out
that no one can feel that he is the owner of cultural diversity in Venezuela.
“Who can take the dance away from
salsa, salseros and salseras? We are carrying out the
Great Mission Viva Venezuela, My Beloved Homeland, launched by President
Nicolás Maduro Moros to enhance our dances, rhythms, music and singing with traditional Venezuelan
roots (...). How nice that we can announce a
program with an emphasis on the Community Salsa Route that has 26 community concerts planned here
in the city of Caracas, together with
training activities at the headquarters of Corazón Salsero,” he said.
For this reason, he issued instructions to the Cultural Cabinets
of the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture to include in the
“programs of all the states of the country the celebration of October 5th
as National Salsa Day”.
For her part, the Deputy Minister of Culture,
Karen Millán, who also accompanied the activity, explained that “there is an intense
program in each of the parishes of Caracas and now there are the
states of the country, with a national program that incorporates more than
800 artists, more than 46 salsa groups and that rotates through the communities,
incorporating producers and cultural promoters who join the organization and the communal meeting”.
In this way, Millán reported that
National Salsa Day will be celebrated from October 05 to 13.
