The president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, reported that the Parliament unanimously approved a 48-hour extension to the Citizens' Power Nominations Committee, with the objective of continuing with the evaluation of the credentials of candidates for the positions of Attorney General of the Republic and Ombudsman.

Rodríguez tasked the President of the Commission, Deputy Giuseppe Alessandrello, to activate the necessary mechanisms to evaluate the credentials already received and those presented during the extension.

He explained that about 60 people are still in the evaluation phase for the positions; the legislative authority specified that, although the parliamentary majority could impose a decision, that is not the objective of the process.

“It would be easy for us to impose our majority, but that's not the goal. We are looking for people who have credentials, have the endorsement and at the same time have the country's political support,” he said.

The president of the AN pointed out that the Parliament has not reached a name of consensus and stressed the importance of insisting on proposals that allow achieving, if not full agreement, at least a level of understanding between the different sectors represented in the National Assembly.

“We must insist on proposals that seek, if not absolute consensus, at least understanding,” he said.

The President of the Parliament reiterated the call to maintain dialogue between the different political groups. “Let's keep talking, keep arguing and keep looking. I think that's the best way,” he said. He added that the objective is to demonstrate that a new political era has begun in the country: “To be able to demonstrate to those interested sectors of extremism that there is a new political era in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and we are going to defend it at all costs.”
