The president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, specified that all those who are abroad and wish to be treated by the Amnesty Law must make their formal request in writing to the Special Monitoring Commission.

The statement was made at the end of the meeting of the Commission for Monitoring the Amnesty Law with the former president of the Spanish Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, held in the Hall of Shields of the Federal Legislative Palace. The objective of the working day was to evaluate the actions that have been generated since the approval and application of this legal instrument.

Rodríguez called on those who consider that their cases may be subject to this legal benefit to begin their proceedings as soon as possible, either directly or through legal representation.

“All those people who consider that they may be subject to the Amnesty Act and who live abroad, or who consider that they could rely on the Amnesty Act or the extensions they have made through the efforts of the monitoring commission, because this is the time for them to communicate in writing or through their lawyers to the monitoring commission, so that their cases can be prosecuted,” Rodríguez said.

He indicated that the commission has already received requests from people who have acted personally and in advance. However, he emphasized that the current situation is favorable to moving forward and accelerating this process, by expanding the spectrum of attention to various political sectors.

In this regard, the president of the AN specified that the call includes those who exercised parliamentary functions in the recent past.

“Including those people who were deputies in the National Assembly that was elected in 2015 and who ceased their functions due to the end of the legislative period in 2000, on January 4 of 2021,” he said.
