The National Assembly (AN) unanimously approved the Law for Palestine and for Humanity, an instrument that annuls Venezuela's adherence to the Rome Statute and, consequently, its permanence in the International Criminal Court (ICC).

During the second discussion, the president of the AN, Jorge Rodríguez, stated that the decision expresses a gesture of support for Palestine in the face of events affecting the population of Gaza and, at the same time, authorizes Venezuela to disassociate itself from the ICC.

Rodríguez argued that the legislation is intended to reaffirm the position of the Venezuelan State in the face of what he described as crimes committed against the Palestinian people, as well as to question the functioning of the International Criminal Court.

After its approval, the legal text will be sent to the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, in accordance with Article 213 of the Constitution, for evaluation within the scope of the Executive's powers in matters of foreign policy.
