The National Assembly (AN) published this Thursday the list of citizens shortlisted to form the Committee for the Evaluation of Judicial Applications, who will be responsible for appointing the magistrates who will fill vacant positions in the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ).

In the above-mentioned list there are 65 shortlisted citizens in total, 30 nominated by different sectors of civil society and 35 who did so on their own initiative.

This process, as reported by the parliament on its website, began at the Plenary of the Parliament on April 21, when the president of the AN, deputy Jorge Rodríguez, announced the existence of vacancies in the highest court of the Republic.

Immediately, he ordered the activation of the Preliminary Committee of the Committee for the Evaluation of Judicial Applications, which is chaired by the deputy Giuseppe Alessandrello, an instance that will submit the list of shortlisted candidates for consideration by the Plenary of the Parliament, soon.

The 10 citizens chosen by the Plenary Assembly will be responsible, together with 11 deputies, for forming the Judicial Nominations Committee, which will be the body responsible for pre-selecting candidates for magistrates of the Supreme Court and other senior judicial offices.
