In the state of Mérida, a scientific day is being held to educate farmers in the paramo on the use of biotechnological tools to obtain healthy tubers.
The induction, dictated through the Biotechnology Center for Training in the Production of Agamic Seeds, seeks to promote the use of seeds of high genetic quality and optimize the real yield of crops compared to imported material, as part of this initiative promoted through the Ministry of Popular Power for Science and Technology (MINCYT).
The head of the aforementioned office, Gabriela Jiménez Ramírez, reported that the laboratory responsible for training operates under the open science modality of the Category II institution. This infrastructure has the international endorsement of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which recognizes it as a reference center in the area of bioengineering.
The minister also ratified the commitment of the national Government to link innovation with the productive development of the countryside; a government strategy that seeks to place cutting-edge knowledge at the direct service of the nation's agri-food security.
During the technical deployment, through the scientific portfolio, a strategic batch of eight thousand potato tubers was delivered to Andean producers. In this regard, the authorities explained that this contribution seeks to guarantee the sovereign and timely multiplication of the food sector in the regional geography, which reduces dependence on foreign inputs and strengthens the local economy.
