Apure Governorate provides assistance to families affected by the flooding of the Arauca River

The governor of the state of Apure, Wilmer Rodríguez, traveled this Saturday, July 11, to the town of La Victoria, located in the Urdaneta parish of the Páez municipality, to coordinate and directly oversee assistance efforts for families affected by the recent and strong flooding of the Arauca River, a climatic phenomenon that has also wreaked havoc in the neighboring Republic of Colombia.

The government agency, on its account on the social network Instagram, points out that the regional president reported that the body of water entered the town suddenly at approximately 1:00 in the morning, reaching levels of up to two meters in height at some points and directly affecting almost 3,000 families.

Despite the strength of the hydrological event, Rodríguez highlighted with relief that rapid action and community organization prevented human losses.

“Thank God and the organized people, we don't report any victims or deaths. But we do have all these families with major effects on their household appliances and household goods. The river entered very quickly, but fortunately it also came down quickly,” said the governor.

From the first moment of the emergency, commissions from the local mayor's office, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), police forces, Fire and Civil Protection, were deployed on site to provide immediate assistance.

Rodríguez emphasized that the Presidency of the Republic is already fully aware of the situation and has guaranteed all the logistical and financial support of the National Government to remedy material damage in the short term.

Regarding the situation of the victims and the loss of equipment, he clarified that the aid is not a promise for the future, but an ongoing reality, “the affected families are already being cared for in two authorized shelters, as water levels have fallen, the inhabitants have begun to return to their homes to evaluate their belongings.”
