The Art Network of the state of Aragua held the colloquium “Handicrafts: Living Memories for Peace” at the headquarters of the regional Comptroller's Office, as part of the program for the National Day of Craftswomen and Craftsmen, with the participation of women from the Lamas municipality.

During the activity, artisans Geraldine Sánchez, dedicated to wood carving, and Justina Aguilar, a doll maker, shared their experiences of craftsmanship as a profession, economic sustenance and expression of cultural identity.

In addition, during the day, both were recognized for their trajectory and contribution to the preservation of traditional knowledge, the Ministry of Culture reports on its website.

Sánchez highlighted the value of craftsmanship as a mechanism for transmitting knowledge between generations and as a fundamental element of ancient roots.

For his part, Aguilar recalled his beginnings in the profession since childhood and stressed that, after more than 60 years of working with natural fibers, making dolls continues to be his way of life.

The meeting was also attended by the state comptroller of Aragua, César Otero Duno, who valued the carrying out of this type of initiative and the use of institutional spaces to promote culture and artisanal talent.

The program will continue on March 26 with a second day of the colloquium at the “Agustín Codazzi” Public Library, with the participation of ceramists Vladimiro Ochoa and Petra Bolívar, who will share their experiences starting at 9:00 in the morning.
