The president of Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo in Argentina, Estela de Carlotto, announced this Monday the discovery of grandson 140, who disappeared during the last dictatorship of the South American country.
“Today the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo announce, with great happiness, the restitution of another appropriate grandchild during the last civic-military dictatorship. Today we welcome the son of Graciela Alicia Romero and Raúl Eugenio Metz,” he said at a press conference from the House for Identity.
In this regard, he explained that “with the restitution of grandson 140, we confirm, once again, that our grandchildren and granddaughters are among us and that, thanks to the perseverance and constant work of these 47 years of struggle, they will continue to appear”.
Carlotto recognized the support of Argentine society, by “providing information on possible sons and daughters and missing persons and accompanying those who doubt their origin”, while adding that “the search cannot be in solitude”.
The discovery of a new grandchild comes weeks after the Government of Javier Milei tried to intervene in the National Genetic Data Bank (BNDG) and asked the federal judge of San Martín, Alicia Vence, to dictate a measure to “protect” stored genetic samples.
