This Thursday, the Argentine Senate began a key session to define the future of the disability emergency law, a rule that had been unanimously approved in July and then vetoed by President Javier Milei.

This initiative includes measures to update tariffs and non-contributory pensions for people with disabilities. The presidential veto was rejected last week in the Chamber of Deputies with a large majority and now the Senate must rule.

According to information detailed by Telesur, if the result in the upper house also reverses the veto, the law will be automatically enacted, which would mark an unprecedented event since 2003 and a political setback for the Executive.

The vote takes place in the midst of the biggest crisis Milei has been going through since the beginning of his term in office. In recent weeks, it has experienced legislative setbacks and the devaluation of the peso has accelerated, with a direct impact both on the markets and on the incomes of the popular sectors.
