“Arturo Michelena” Prize 2024 was awarded to the Meridian artist Dayson Piedrahita

With the work “Sagrada Familia”, oil painting on canvas, the artist Dayson Piedrahita from Merida won the 2024 “Arturo Michelena” Prize, awarded by the judging jury of the 66th Arturo Michelena National Salon of Plastic Arts, which brings together at the Museum of Culture of Carabobo a total of 259 works with the most varied exhibition of the national plastic arts.
In this edition of the Salón Michelena, 962 works from all regions of the country were submitted, with 259 pieces selected by 263 artists from all corners of Venezuela.
In their verdict, the members of the jury highlight the “obvious mastery of the pictorial technique, the sensitivity that is perceived in chromatism, which results in a visual effect that affects the perception of the work. Innovative proposal that stands out from the group on display” when referring to the winning work, “Sagrada Familia” (2024) oil on canvas by the artist Dayson Piedrahita from Merida.

To the artist Bárbara Colmenares (Aragua), for her work “Retrospective and subtle dream of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, Dr. Razetti and the Miraculous Virgin” (2024) Acrylic on canvas; to the artist Anareli Ágreda (Caracas), for her work “Infinity...” (2023), digital photography in black and white; to the artist Hendrix Hidalgo, from the state of Miranda, for his work “Imaginary Territories No. 10”, 2024 (Textile); to José Trinidad, from Caracas, for his work “Intrinsic Culture. The members of the award jury thanked the 962 applicants for the works from all regions of the country and the 263 artists present in the final exhibition, each and every one of them and their works, a reflection of the highest excellence and quality of the plastic arts, and their commitment to art made in Venezuela.
