Authorities remain on alert even though the level of the Orinoco has fallen

Venezuela's main river, the Orinoco, has begun to decline in its amount of water, however authorities are monitoring and preventive measures due to the unusual level it has experienced in recent weeks.

Civil Protection authorities have reported a drop in the water level in some critical areas, which brings little relief to residents of towns close to the banks of the imposing river.

This decline has been noticed in the Orinoco springs towards the state of Amazonas, after the said river reached a peak of 52.83 meters above sea level, Radio Miraflores press reports.

The authorities of Amazonas, Bolívar, Anzoátegui and Monagas have reconsidered preventive measures in the face of possible floods.

It is important to note that in Bolívar and Delta Amacuro, in the south of the country, the flow continues to increase constantly, and the alarms are on to make decisions at times that are required.

Recently, in the Hipódromo Viejo sector of the municipality of Hermes, in the state of Bolívar, the level of the tributary reached a height of 15 meters and 48 centimeters, which generated a preventive movement of several families that live near the banks of the river.
