This Tuesday, the Minister for Electric Energy, Rolando Alcalá, provided details of the actions taken by the National Government through the National Electric Corporation S.A (CORPOELEC) to increase electricity generation and ensure the optimization of this service throughout the country.
In a transmitted message, Alcalá, together with the president of CORPOELEC, Juan Crisóstomo Fernández, indicated that a comprehensive plan is currently being implemented for the restoration of electrical system capacities that will allow the incorporation of 1,300 megawatts by the end of 2026.
Incorporation of 1,300 megawatts
In this regard, it was specified that Unit 6 of Central Plant (600 MW) will be put into operation soon, seven units in the state of Zulia (more than 500 MW) and others at the national level, actions that he highlighted will be possible due to access to original spare parts that had been limited to the country in the past.
Next, they highlight the carrying out of work on the three main hydroelectric plants in the country in partnership with international companies that will allow the optimization of the generation capacities of these power plants.
“Agreements have been consolidated with companies such as Eurobras for the reactivation of machines in Guri, with INSA for projects in Tocoma and Macagua, and with the companies General Electric and Siemens for the supply of original parts and the repowering of the system,” he said.
Optimizing distribution
He also highlighted the work to ensure a stable distribution, pointing out “the expansion of the Central Plant Substation, with the installation of a new operational autotransformer at the end of November, and the execution of the Portuguese Substation to optimize flow to the Andean, Barine and Portuguese regions, in addition to routine maintenance and the development of the Machango Solar Park”.
Strengthening and modernization
The holder of the portfolio stressed the importance of the new Organic Law on the National Electricity System Service and noted that this represents a significant step towards the modernization of the electricity sector in our country.
“This Law will allow the integration of the public and private sector in energy generation, transmission, distribution and commercialization activities,” he said and maintained that this will promote “competitiveness, improve efficiency and attract investments that strengthen electrical infrastructure.”
“Not only will this ensure a more reliable and sustainable supply, but it will also benefit consumers with wider access to energy. Nowadays, where energy development is crucial, this Act is a catalyst for economic development and environmental sustainability,” he said.
Conscious consumption
Finally, after drawing attention to the exponential increase in electricity demand as a result of the increase in temperature and the increase in economic activity in the country, he urged the population to make conscious and efficient use of the service, while thanking the country's industrial and commercial sector for its contribution to the reduction of demand thanks to self-generation.
