During a recent expedition to the mountainous areas of the Iribarren municipality, scientists and veterinary experts from Bararida Park in the state of Lara spotted a frontine bear and two young, a species declared endangered a few years ago.

Through the strategic implementation of a camera trap system, researchers obtained visual records of a frontine bear accompanied by its young.

This fact strongly confirmed the reproduction of this species in the Andes and highlighted the vitality of local ecosystems. The success of this field day was possible thanks to the alliance between Bararida Park and the technical support of the Autonomous Institute of Environmental Management of the Iribarren Municipality (IAGAMI), institutions that provided monitoring equipment for this important work, the park's press release detailed.

This sighting not only represented a cause for celebration for the country's natural heritage, but it also became an urgent call for institutional action. Experts and environmentalists insisted that the Quizuidi Ecological Corridor be formally annexed to the Terepaima National Park.

This legal measure was considered strictly necessary to ensure the safe movement and long-term survival of Tremarctos ornatus in the region.
