The Bolivarian Agency for Space Activities (ABAE), attached to the Ministry of Popular Power for Science and Technology, began its participation in the IV Scientific Research Conference 2026 in Isla de Aves, a strategic space for monitoring ocean processes and the preservation of marine ecosystems.

The activity, organized by the National Institute of Aquatic Spaces (INEA), brings together an ABAE technical team led by Jesús Camacho and Rosana Sánchez, who carry out fieldwork aimed at analyzing environmental dynamics in this key area of the Caribbean.

The studies focus on two lines of research:
- Monitoring Sargassum, using a spatial model that allows us to examine its behavior between La Guaira and Isla de Aves and support response measures.
- Detection of macroplastics, through an experimental platform designed to calibrate satellite algorithms that facilitate the identification of floating debris.

The measurements combine information from the Venezuelan Sucre satellite (VRSS‑2) with freely accessible multispectral sensors, allowing direct contrasts on the ground and strengthening national capacities to deal with phenomena associated with climate change and marine pollution.

With these actions, ABAE is making progress in the construction of its own tools for data analysis and in the development of technological solutions applied to the protection of maritime spaces.

These efforts are part of the lines promoted by the Bolivarian Government through the Great Mission of Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Humberto Fernández-Morán, aimed at consolidating strategic knowledge and promoting research with an impact on land management.
