Last October, the Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism (Minec) launched a National Moss Conservation Campaign, in order to sensitize the population to the importance of moss and take legal action to curb the harmful practice of extraction and sale, especially during the holidays.
Moss is a vital component of ecosystems, helping to regulate soil moisture, acting as a habitat for diverse species and contributing to air quality. However, extraction and commercialization have endangered these valuable species and the balance of natural environments.
In Venezuela, the tradition of decorating Christmas cribs with moss threatens the existence of this plant species. The Bolivarian Government has taken actions to counteract this impact, such as this type of campaign involving environmental education and the enactment of laws prohibiting its extraction, commercialization and exploitation.
MINEC invites the entire population to join this cause, participate in actions and be part of the change towards a more sustainable future. Every action counts and together we can make a big difference.
