Bolivarian National Police Corps develops environmental operation in Mérida

As a result of an oversight operation in Mérida, officials from the Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism, together with the State Police and the Bolivarian National Police (PNB), seized a batch of illegally sourced wood and stantiles. During the actions, seven people allegedly involved in the crime were arrested.
The operation was carried out in three key points: El Vigía ( Alberto Adriani Municipality): In the Guayabones sector, a vehicle was seized with 43 pieces of cedar (boards, planks and barracks) illegally sawn. Three people, including a minor, were arrested. In a second operation at kilometer 12, two individuals were arrested who were carrying out the illegal felling of 14 trees (fresnillo and amarillón), from which they obtained 90 stalks.
In Mucuchí ( Rangel Municipality): In the El Vergel sector, 200 eucalyptus plantations were seized and transported in a truck. Two people operating the vehicle were arrested.
The Ministry's Environmental Impact Monitoring and Control Unit carried out technical expertise on wood to determine its volume and commercial value. The reports were sent to the Public Prosecutor's Office with competence in environmental matters to begin investigations, the press release said.
