The trial of Brazil's former neoliberal president, Jair Bolsonaro, and seven of his closest collaborators advanced in the country's Supreme Federal Court with two key interventions: that of Attorney General Paulo Gonet and that of Judge Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the case.

Both consolidated the accusation by arguing that the coup plot of 2022 was coordinated, structured and with shared responsibilities among all the defendants.

Attorney General Gonet argued that “all the people in the process are responsible” for the attempt to reverse the electoral results that won Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

As he explained, the differences between the defendants are limited to the degree of participation of each one and, consequently, to the magnitude of the penalties they could receive. For the Public Prosecutor's Office, the facts demonstrate the existence of a criminal organization in the legal sense, in which each defendant fulfilled a specific function.

For his part, Judge Moraes presented an extensive report that covered all stages of the criminal process: from obtaining evidence and opening the investigation to the acceptance of the complaint and the statements of the accused.

The magistrate stressed that due process was fully respected and rejected defense questions, in particular those that questioned the Supreme Court's competence to try the defendants and the validity of the collaboration agreement between Mauro Cid, former Bolsonaro's assistant.
