The general secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello Rondón, urged the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to take responsibility for the environmental damage and for the fishermen who were affected by the oil spill from the Caribbean country.

“Until now it is affecting Monagas and Sucre, but it is inevitable that the maritime current will bring them to other states, especially if Trinidad, as we know, has ignored the complaints that we have made so that they can correct the problem they have,” Cabello criticized during the weekly press conference of the red awning.

He pointed out that this is an issue of irresponsibility on the part of the Trinidadian government. “The observation has been made to them, they have even been told how far it was, and at this point they haven't given any kind of answer,” he said.

He pointed out that fishermen are affected by their source of work, “they are losing it because of this spill and they make the demands, the people have the right to complain. Now what the government of Trinidad is obliged to recognize to these fishermen and the people of Venezuela the environmental damage that is being done,” he emphasized.
