The leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Mark Carney, was selected as the country's prime minister in the parliamentary elections held this Monday, according to the official vote count.

The Liberal Party, after the resignation of Justin Trudeau, won the victory over the conservatives because, with the counting of more than 95% of the votes, it obtained 43.4% of the votes, while the Conservative Party, led by Pierre Poilievre, received 41.5%.

Although it has not yet been determined if it will win an absolute majority (at least 172 seats) or if it will require alliances with minority forces, Telesur explained.

According to the most relevant media estimates, the Liberal Party would currently have 155 seats against 119 of the conservatives, followed by the Quebec Bloc (21 seats) and the New Democratic Party, which would receive seven seats.
