The Caracas Fire Department issued a public clarification to deny false information that circulates on social networks. The agency informed citizens that it is not carrying out penalties, fines or “user conduct” inspections on those who use elevators.

However, for reasons of safety and comprehensive well-being, the institution urged the population to avoid using these vertical transport systems. The recommendation is to maintain this forecast until each equipment is properly inspected and certified as safe by qualified technical personnel.

Officials explained that the alert is issued because there have been failures, unexpected stops and various risky situations in several elevators. Faced with this scenario, they recalled that the proper maintenance and operation of these systems are essential to prevent accidents.

The fire department also called on communities to keep an eye on official “Operational and Safe” notifications. This badge will be awarded once competent personnel verify the good condition of the elevator, reaffirming that prevention is everyone's task.
