A total of 1,794 communal justices of the peace in Caracas, made up of 897 chief judges and 897 alternate judges, formally assumed their responsibilities at an event held at the Municipal Theater.
The mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, on her account on the social network Instagram, reported that the proclamation comes as part of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
During his speech, he highlighted the efforts of the judges during a brief but significant electoral campaign, which managed to mobilize the people and turn the event into an authentic democratic festival.
“You worked hard, judges and judges of the communal peace, in a short but very heartfelt campaign that encouraged the community to take to the streets,” she said.
He stressed that in each of the 289 communal circuits in Caracas, notable citizen participation was observed, which will make it possible to resolve conflicts in communities in a more agile way and thus optimize coexistence. “We are going to move forward in building peace, with awareness in each territory, as dreamed of by Commander Chávez and our president Nicolás Maduro,” he added.
He explained that from now on, the new communal peace chiefs will begin a training period to learn the procedures they must follow. In addition, they will have the support of institutions such as the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) and the Public Defense, which will facilitate the streamlining of processes.
Meléndez also congratulated the People of Caracas for their participation in election day and thanked the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), which was at the forefront of this effort, and stressed that “in unity there is strength”.
“Long live Caracas and long live the Communal Judges of the Peace!” , the mayor concluded by reaffirming the commitment of the local administration to peace and justice in communities.
