As part of the activities organized by the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture to celebrate the inscription of the casabe as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, in the spaces of the National Art Gallery, the photographic exhibition Flavors of My Earth: Arepa and Casabe will be inaugurated.

The Venezuelan arepa, an emblematic symbol of national cuisine, is a food that comes from our original indigenous peoples. Its preparation is attributed to the Cumanagoto tribe located in the east of the country, who cultivated corn and developed the popular food.

On the other hand, the nutritional potential of cassava and the techniques for producing it, as well as the number of its multiple uses, come from cassava, the basis of the ancient food. The tuber has been cultivated mostly in the Amazon region and the Orinoco river basin for more than 4,000 years, as announced by the Minister of Culture, Ernesto Villegas, on his social networks.

It is important to remember that on November 29, Villegas handed over to the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in France, the file to nominate Creole food as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

In addition, on December 4, the casabe was added to the organization's representative list, in the first multinational file to be carried out in Latin America. Cuba, Haiti, Honduras, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela met, from where cassava, a raw material for the production of the multiethnic food that is already part of humanity, went through the Orinoco to the Caribbean.

It is worth noting that events of this nature enhance our cultural identity and reaffirm the Venezuelan people's sense of belonging. In the midst of an unequal battle against the algorithm, which attempts to position false narratives in our children and young people about other customs alien to Venezuelans.
