The Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, rejected Guyana's statements before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and assured that they have denied all of Venezuela's will to work directly with this nation.

In this regard, he pointed out that Venezuela has promoted programs for the benefit of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, such as Petrocaribe.

Gil specified that after the arguments presented by Guyana, Venezuela is assisted by the “historical reason that the only way to resolve the territorial dispute of the Essequibo is the Geneva Agreement”.

He also explained that Venezuela is preparing the “legal, political and technical team” for Monday when he will present the Venezuelan arguments to the Court, to which he ratified that he did not have the interference to resolve the controversy.

Finally, he pointed out that “if we want to protect the spirit of international law, there is no other reason than to agree with the Venezuelan position that we are going to negotiate together with the Geneva Agreement.
