Through the social network X, the Foreign Minister of the Republic, Yván Gil, urged the Government of Canada not to express its opinion on the controversy between Guyana and Venezuela and to dedicate itself to dealing with its internal affairs.
“Canada has no say in the dispute between Guyana and Venezuela over Guiana Essequiba. The failed Canadian government must go about its business,” he said of the words of the Canadian High Commissioner in Guyana, Mark Berman, in support of Guyana.
He stressed that the Canadian government should “stop being a destabilizing factor in the Caribbean region at the service of Exxon Mobil,” instead of meddling in the affairs of other countries.
He also reiterated the call to the Government of Guyana to desist from “involving complex countries with frustrated colonialist influences in this controversy, which are sinking together with their lackeys of the stateless right who would hand over the Essequibo and the Homeland to North American transnational corporations.”
He reaffirmed Venezuela's position to resolve the dispute within the framework of respect for international law and the Geneva Agreement. “The only possible and legal way to resolve this dispute is the Geneva Agreement of 1966,” he said.
