During his participation in the Meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the Non-Aligned Movement (MNOAL) on Palestine, in New York, the Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, ratified this Thursday the support and solidarity of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela with the Palestinian cause, in the face of the genocide being perpetrated by the Zionist regime of Israel in the Gaza Strip.
“We will never tire of defending the right of the brotherly Palestinian people to exist in their free, independent and sovereign State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and on the borders before 1967, nor of supporting each and every one of the international efforts aimed at achieving a just, comprehensive and lasting peace to the Question of Palestine,” said the Venezuelan Foreign Minister.
At the meeting, held in the context of the 79th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), the head of the diplomatic office, on behalf of the Bolivarian Government, reiterated his condemnation “of the brutal genocide perpetrated by the Zionist State of Israel against the Palestinian people, with the protection and assistance of the American government, among other Western countries.”
Gil criticized the lack of a clear political horizon, as well as the “criminal practices that, in a systematic and deliberate manner, have been applied by the Occupying Power (Israel), not only to prolong the conflict, but even more seriously - to destroy the viability of the two-State solution, as established by the United Nations and ratified by the peace initiative of the member countries of the Arab League.”
He recalled that, since the beginning of the last escalation, almost a year ago, Israeli Zionism has murdered more than 40,000 Palestinians, particularly women and children, in the occupied territories, so “Venezuela condemns the serious and systematic violations of international law, including international humanitarian law, committed by the occupying entity.”
In this regard, he urged the members of the MNOAL to “deepen their role before international organizations in favor of complying with United Nations resolutions, issued in defense of the Palestinian cause, because of their positions of principle against colonialism, oppression, occupation, domination and apartheid, since certain international actors are dedicated only to protecting and encouraging genocide in Palestine, to the detriment of international law and their own credibility of the UN”.
The Foreign Minister stressed that the Movement must play a leading role in promoting the cessation of hostilities and guaranteeing access to humanitarian assistance in Gaza, in addition to “adopting measures that guarantee international protection to the Palestinian people and promote a political horizon that will lead both to the realization of two States and to the entry of Palestine as a full Member State of the United Nations”.
“The struggle of the Palestinian people is the struggle of the countries of the Global South. It is an anti-colonialist, anti-imperialist struggle that now also constitutes a struggle to rescue international law and true multilateralism,” he emphasized.
