The stability of Ecuador's national electricity system is at total risk, following Colombia's announcement that it will not offer more energy as a measure to protect its power park.

Now electricity rationing lasts up to 11 hours in several cities, which has a negative impact on the commercial sector and other areas of the southern country.

The problem that occurs in Ecuador with the national electricity system results from several factors, including the incorrect management on the part of the government of Daniel Noboa and the impact of climate change due to the absence of rain for a long time.

And although there are already some rains in several regions of the country, the recovery and supply of electricity will not be an easy task.

The country's main reservoirs have critical water levels and this does not allow power generators to operate at their maximum capacities. Some reservoirs recover in a few meters with the rains that begin to fall, however the drought in the country is “severe” this season.

Added to this is the decision of the Colombian government to suspend the sale of electricity to Ecuador, although this action is a State measure because a situation similar to the drought occurs in Colombia and the government of that country wishes to guarantee electricity to its citizens.
