The People's Bank of China on Thursday issued official authorization for twelve financial institutions to start operating with the digital yuan. The main objective of this measure is to accelerate the development of sovereign virtual currency and meet growing public demand, thus consolidating the leadership of the Asian giant in the implementation of state-of-the-art payment technologies.

Among the entities incorporated into this financial ecosystem are renowned institutions such as the CITIC of China, the Everbright Bank of China and the Huaxia Bank. These banks have successfully overcome the strict operational and technical protocols required by the issuing entity, and are able to immediately offer comprehensive services under the digital yuan platform.

The central bank reported that this expansion is part of a strategy to diversify the number of operators and promote a much larger market share.

By integrating new actors, it seeks to encourage competition and efficiency in the electronic payment system, ensuring that the technological infrastructure is robust and accessible to all sectors of the population.

Finally, the monetary authorities emphasized that the increase in the number of participating institutions is essential to support financial innovation in the country. With this opening, China reaffirms its commitment to modernizing its economy and strengthening its national currency, adapting it to the demands of an increasingly digitalized global market.
