The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Lin Jian, expressed this Wednesday the Asian country's opposition to any promotion of conflict or confrontation by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in the Asia-Pacific region.

“We are firmly opposed to NATO distancing itself from its position as a regional defense organization and moving towards the Asia-Pacific region to fuel conflict and confrontation, and to undermine prosperity and stability in the region,” he said, urging the bloc to do “more for world peace, stability and security.”

The statements of the Chinese spokesman come in the middle of the Alliance's 75th summit, which opened this Tuesday in Washington, United States (USA), and will continue until Thursday, the 11th.

Leaders and representatives of the 32 member countries are meeting to address issues such as the strengthening of the bloc, tensions with Russia and relations with China.

Prior to the start of the event, NATO allies agreed to finance military aid for Ukraine worth 43 billion dollars next year.
