China urges the US to pressure Israel to cease military operations in Gaza

The Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations (UN), Geng Shuang, called on the United States Government to pressure Israel to stop attacks on the Palestinian people in Gaza.

“We urge the United States to show a responsible attitude, to use the significant influence it has over the party involved and to take tangible actions to pressure Israel to cease its military operations without delay, as required by Council resolutions, to give the Palestinian people a chance to live,” Geng said during the briefing of the UN Security Council.

The Chinese diplomat described the situation in the Gaza Strip as alarming because the Israeli army has caused the death of more than 41,000 Palestinian civilians, according to a Xinhua press release.

He stressed that his country has shown its interest in peace in the Middle East for the good of this region and of all humanity.

“China supports new actions by this Council to extinguish the flames of war, mitigate the humanitarian disaster and bring peace to the region as soon as possible,” said the Chinese ambassador.
