The president of the Committee for the Evaluation of Applications of the Citizens' Power of the National Assembly (AN), Deputy Giuseppe Alessandrello, reported this Monday, March 16, that 134 candidates are eligible for the positions of Attorney General of the Republic and Ombudsman.

He specified that at the end of the process of receiving credentials, and publishing the official list of applicants, that the phase of analyzing the files continues and interviews the interested parties.

Alessandrello explained that of the 134 candidates, 61 are running for the position of head of the Ombudsman's Office and 73 are running for Attorney General of the Republic. “At the moment, we have interviewed around 100 candidates, on that list that was published today,” he stressed.

He pointed out that they will continue the interview process this week, until they cover all the candidates, “and then, finally, draw up a list of eligible citizens, which will also be published,” he said, while specifying that this will be the final one that will be recorded before the Plenary.

He also explained that the process has three sub-phases: the evaluation of the collections of the candidates; and the interviews, through which information is obtained that does not appear in the documents provided.

He stated that the information provided by the applicants is also verified with State institutions, such as the National Integrated Customs and Tax Administration Service (SENIAT), the Public Ministry, the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic and security agencies.

The last subphase, he said, has to do with collating all the information, and then drawing up the final list of those eligible.
