CNE extends the period of modification and replacement of presidential candidates for 72 hours

This Saturday, April 20, the National Electoral Council (CNE) announced the extension of the process of replacing and modifying the candidates for the presidential elections called for July 28, for 72 hours.

Through a statement published on its social networks and website, the governing body indicated that the extension of the aforementioned deadline will expire on April 23, 2024 at 12:00am.

Below is the full text of the statement:

The National Electoral Council, in response to requests made by different organizations for political purposes participating in the 2024 Presidential Election, makes public knowledge that, in the exercise of the authority conferred on it by paragraph 3 of article 33 of the Organic Law of Electoral Power and, in particular, article 42 of the Organic Law on Electoral Processes, in a permanent session today, April 20, 2024, it has decided to extend the period for seventy-two (72) hours the modification and/or replacement of nominations that will be reflected in the ballot or electoral instrument. Consequently, the extension of the said deadline will expire on April 23, 2024 at 12:00am.

With the extension granted, the National Electoral Council confirms its commitment to guarantee the right to suffrage and political participation of the Venezuelan people, as well as to give effect to the principles of transparency, equality, reliability, impartiality and efficiency of the electoral processes established in article 293 of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
