Colombia's environmental and risk management authorities are constantly monitoring a total of ten forest fire emergencies nationwide this Wednesday, reporting three active sources and seven under control, with a preliminary impact of more than 3,009 hectares of vegetation in various regions of the country.

Active fire fronts are concentrated in the municipalities of Dolores in the department of Tolima, El Cerrito in Valle del Cauca and Iza in Boyacá, areas where local and regional relief forces are carrying out mitigation efforts. In the town of El Cerrito, flames are advancing over the Los Domínguez paramo, considered a strategic ecosystem of high water value for the environmental conservation of the area.

For its part, in the municipality of Dolores, there is an underground fire over the Bosque de Galilea nature reserve, a contingency that is being addressed with the support of two AT-802 aircraft of the National Police and four tankers supplied by the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD). In addition, two MI-17 helicopters equipped with the Bambi Bucket system operate in Villa de Leyva to carry out aerial discharges of water on the most complex sources.

The oversight and operational response efforts carried out by prevention agencies have successfully liquidated another 35 forest fires over the past seven days, while territorial brigades are still deployed to completely quell active events and prevent further losses in the biodiversity of the Colombian territory.
