Colombian Aerospace Force reported a car bomb explosion near the Air Base in Cali

A car bomb attack occurred near the Marco Fidel Suárez Air Base, located in the city of Cali, Colombia; the detonation occurred in Carrera 8, an area adjacent to military installations, generated a rumble that was perceived several kilometers away. The Colombian Aerospace Force (FAC) confirmed the incident and activated security protocols in the area.

The Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, reported that the attack left a preliminary toll of five people dead and at least 36 injured, all civilians, according to the Venezolana de Televisión website.

In public statements, the president linked the incident to actions attributed to the armed group led by the alias “Iván Mordisco”, calling the event a manifestation of terrorism. Authorities are still evaluating the extent of the material damage.

Emergency, health and risk management teams were immediately deployed by the local government.

The mayor of Cali, Alejandro Eder, through his social networks, indicated that health care and security services were activated to assist those affected. Inspection work in the area continues, while evidence is being collected to clarify the details of the attack.

The FAC and intelligence agencies work together to identify those responsible and determine the type of explosive used.

So far, no direct damage to military infrastructure has been reported, although a technical review of the facilities is being carried out. The perimeter remains cordoned off and under surveillance.
