This Tuesday, July 22, the Colombian Minister of Mines and Energy, Edwin Palma Egea, highlighted that the recent agreement reached with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on energy matters, makes it possible to promote a policy of interconnection between Peoples, according to the website of the Ministry of Popular Power for Electric Energy (MPPEE).

In his speech at the VII Ministerial Energy Meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), Palma explained that “we are reopening the energy connection with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela”, and recalled that both nations will celebrate three years of reopening their borders in September.

He added that this is “a way of being able to revive those ties of cooperation; it is energy and that is why we are committed to the brother People of Venezuela, to be able to bring energy again and I hope in the coming weeks I can be doing the tests, Mr. Minister, there on the border.”

On July 17, the Governments of Colombia and Venezuela, represented by the Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, and the Chief of Office of Casa de Nariño, Alfredo Sadee, signed a memorandum of understanding that establishes the basis for the creation of an Economic Zone of Peace, Union and Binational Development to strengthen integration in strategic areas, including energy.

Caracas and Bogotá reaffirm their commitment to moving towards greater integration with a view to contributing to a more connected, competitive and sustainable region.
